Vladimir Orlyanchik

Senior R&D Staff Member

Dr. Vladimir Orlyanchik is the Group Leader of the Manufacturing Systems Analytics Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The group develops data driven technologies to monitor, improve, and control advanced manufacturing processes, with a particular focus on supporting part qualification and certification. Its research spans the full manufacturing data lifecycle, including sensors and instrumentation, data acquisition, multimodal data integration, AI/ML analytics, digital twins, and manufacturing data management. The group works to connect heterogeneous data from manufacturing equipment, in-situ sensors, process parameters, and post-process characterization to develop predictive models, identify part-quality relationships, and enable real-time, data informed process optimization and control.

Dr. Orlyanchik has an interdisciplinary background in experimental physics, sensors, data analytics, and machine learning. Prior to joining ORNL, he worked in a variety of R&D environments focused on sensing and data-driven analysis of complex physical systems. At ORNL, his research has focused particularly on applying multimodal sensing, AI/ML, and digital technologies to advanced manufacturing, including additive manufacturing and directed energy deposition. His work combines experimental science, instrumentation, data science, and software development to translate manufacturing data into actionable information for process improvement and qualification.
