Room-Temperature, Field Induced Activation of an Oxide Semiconductor

Scientific Achievement

Ionic liquid field induced activation extracts oxygen from a semiconducting layer, which allows the electrical properties to be finely tuned at room temperature.

Significance and Impact

The athermal field induced activation is a pathway for synthesis of low temperature oxide semiconductors that are compatible with flexible electronics.

Research Details

–The high fields induced by a biased ionic liquid controllably extracts oxygen ions from the amorphous InGaZnO semiconducting material which conveniently tunes the electrical properties.

–The room temperature field induced activation mimics the effects of standard thermal activation.
