Dean Edwards

Dr. K. Dean Edwards is a senior research engineer focusing on experimental and numerical simulation efforts to develop clean, efficient combustion and thermodynamic systems for transportation, power generation, and residential and commercial buildings.  Expertise includes the following:  high-fidelity multi-physics CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation of engineering systems such as internal combustion engines; experimental evaluation of advanced combustion strategies and their impact on engine efficiency, performance, and emissions; thermodynamic analysis of engineering systems; waste-heat recovery (WHR); nonlinear dynamics and control. Leads experimental and numerical combustion engine research, often in partnership with industry stakeholders including as principal investigator for the ORNL-Wabtec Decarbonization of Rail Engines Cooperative Research and Development Agreement.
