Soumendu Bagchi

Research Scientist

Soumendu Bagchi is a Staff Scientist at the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences in Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Dr. Bagchi’s research is focussed around computational multiscale dynamics of solids, in particular, scale-bridging atomistic simulations to control material behavior at the extremes with a focus on Exascale and AI/ML-driven computational materials modeling approaches. Currently, Soumendu’s research interests include

Data-driven and mechanistic upscaling of atomic scale dynamics to mesoscales in solids

Extreme-scale adaptive ensemble sampling workflows for materials discovery

Phase transitions, nucleation and kinetics of defects at the surfaces and interfaces of nanostructures

Autonomous platforms to enable simulation-guided digital twins for materials discovery in self-driving laboratories
