  • Energy and Utilities

Surface modification plays a key role in the electrochemical performance of lithium ion battery materials. The purpose of the modified surface layer on the active high voltage spinel material is to provide a high capacity retention, continuous chemical stability, tolerance of manganese dissolution at high temperature, improved electronic conductivity, and reduced irreversible capacity loss. Controlled surface of the active materials have a low resistance and enhance the surface intercalation reaction of lithium ion, reduce cell polarization and inter-particle resistance and contact between active electrode material and electrolyte. This invention describes how one can overcome the barriers with several advantages mentioned above.
