Alumina Forming Iron Base Superalloy

INVENTION REFERENCE NUMBER

201102669

  • Materials

The present invention comprises a heat-resistant superalloy that is based on iron, which keeps cost low, offering superior high temperature corrosion resistance and creep resistance to currently available iron-base superalloys. A new class of alumina-forming austenitic (AFA) Fe-based superalloys uses a newly developed phase to achieve creep strength; this is in place of the carbide strengthening used in previously patented ORNL AFA alloys. The use of the newly developed phase in AFA offers the potential for greater creep strengthening and the opportunity to precipitate harden the AFA alloys for improved high-temperature tensile strength.
