Renewable p-xylene From Biomass Derived Alcohols

INVENTION REFERENCE NUMBER

201703893

  • Transportation

The production of p-xylene from biomass derived alcohols via zeolite catalysts is always accompanied by the production of xylene isomers (m-xylene and o-xylene). Separation of p-xylene from the other xylene isomers to produce high purity p-xylene for polymer application is an energy-intensive process. This invention shows a method to directly produce high purity p-xylene from biomass derived alcohols, which will help to significantly reduce the energy required for the downstream separation and reduce the cost of renewable pxylene production.
