Hybrid Solid-Liquid-Fueled Reactors with Enhanced Heat Transfer and Corrosion Resistance

INVENTION REFERENCE NUMBER

  • Energy and Utilities

While the inherent safety of MSRs bestows great potential for future use, the necessity of a metal halide salt as a fuel presents challenges due to corrosion and fuel stability. Solar-thermal energy storage research has also built upon the vast knowledge from databases associated with the MSR efforts, further highlighting corrosion and salt heat transfer limitations. Herein we discuss methods to mitigate the corrosion and heat transfer challenges observed in molten salts with specific application to MSRs.
