Resistivity Measurement of Carbon Fiber Tow

INVENTION REFERENCE NUMBER

201704009

  • Detectors and Sensors

This invention measures physical properties of carbon fiber tow. Equipment typically used for these types of measurements are often prohibitively expensive, bulky, and sensitive to industrial environments. In contrast, this new measurement tool is small, cheap, and rugged to harsh environments. This device allows for real-time, in-situ measurements of the carbon fiber tow as it is being produced and provides feedback to tune fabrication process parameters such as tow pull speed, tow tensions, and temperature of thermal processing steps. Additionally, this system can be utilized to measure other types of conductive and dielectric materials.
