Method for the Preparation and Production of Carbon Fiber from Biomimetic Fiber Precursor and Carbon Fibers Made Thereby

For the first time, carbon fiber (CF) made by the conversion of a biosynthetic polymer have been successfully prepared. The biomimetic material used as a precursor is a protein polymer chain. The result presented in this study provides a promising pathway for the generation of synthetic renewable resource (non-petroleum) based carbon fiber precursor.
