Methods for Vibrational Sum Frequency Generation

INVENTION REFERENCE NUMBER

  • Analytical-Instrumentation

Here we introduce a new approach to expand the utility of vibrational sum-frequency generation spectroscopy using a pulse method. We demonstrate that pulse can be specified to match experimental requirements without the need for any changes to the optical alignment. Pulses are readily synthesized, thereby limiting the spectral resolution, which is an improvement of typical systems by a factor of ~3. Similarly, the utility of having complete control over the pulse characteristics is demonstrated. The flexibility afforded by the invention expands the samples that can be studied without large scale modification of existing experimental systems or large investments specialty optics.
