Recovery of materials from spent batteries using a green solvent

Due to the demand of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) use in advanced energy storage devices like electric vehicles, consumer electronics, renewable energy storage, back-up power, medical devices, etc has increased resulting in a large quantity of spent LIBs and might result in supply risks for natural lithium- containing reserves. To alleviate resource shortage and to decrease potential environmental pollution caused by improper solid waste disposal, recycling of strategic materials from spent batteries LIBs needs to be developed urgently.
