Software for Wire Anchoring for Co-Extruded Printing

INVENTION REFERENCE NUMBER

  • Manufacturing

The wire co-extrusion process for additive manufacturing requires a method to leave excess wire exposed on both ends of the tooling surface so that the wires can later be connected to a power supply. Wire left free during printing can become entangled with the extruder and other moving parts. Anchoring the wires can be done automatically during the printing process by encapsulating the wire within anchor beads strategically placed on each end of the mold surface. This can be implemented with an automated solution during the slicing/toolpathing step of the setup process such that the user defines the area to be heated with wires and the software handles all the remaining toolpath and anchor generation automatically.
