Postdoctoral researchers contribute to active projects in biology and the environment, energy science, fusion and fission, isotope science, materials, national security, neutron science, physical sciences, and supercomputing. Depending on the position, researchers may use specialized instruments, user facilities, and advanced computing resources while collaborating with colleagues from ORNL and partner institutions.
A postdoctoral appointment provides focused research experience and opportunities to strengthen skills in scientific communication, collaboration, leadership, and career planning. Postdocs can participate in seminars, workshops, competitions, and the annual ORPA Research Symposium.
Postdoctoral appointments are generally offered for up to 24 months, with the potential for extension based on performance and available funding. Opportunities are available across ORNL’s research areas.
